Painting my old laminex kitchen cabinets

Do you remember what this old dated kitchen looked like when we moved  in?

Then I painted the bench to 'make do' till I could make up my mind what to do with this ugly duckling.

First I painted that ugly brown, light draining, depressing bench top.  The colour was supposed to be lighter, but this is what it ended up like.  The paint is called 'music box'.

I then painted the bench top in cream ....much easier on the eye. ( you can see the cream bench top in the picture below.)

Well, now I've decided to tackle the job of painting the cabinets.

Day One.

There are paints out there now to make it easy to paint over tiled and laminated surfaces.  Even if you're shown a colour chart for the particular paint - Your not limited to those shades alone. You have the option to chose any colour from any  trade brand you might like. Just speak to your local paint distributor and he will mix the colour you prefer.

So today I started to prepare the surfaces for painting.   First I  ..............

Cleaned the cabinets with tile and laminex cleaner.
Sanded all the areas to be painted.
Applied undercoat.

I still have the kickboards and the upper cabinets to do .........tomorrow.

Day two.

Basically the same again ....a second undercoat and I also did the kickboards.

Day three.

Today, I put the first coat of paint on the cabinets with a brush.  Now I'll let this dry and harden for a couple of days.

Of course I still have the top cabinet above the dishwasher to do, but I'll get to that one later. This is an ongoing project and it will take me a little while ... Back in a few days.

I'm not as young as I used to be, you know!  Maa
