The top cabinet was finished and the last coat of paint went on.
The handles were replaced with new modern steel ones at a cost of $18.75 for ten. I was lucky enough to get them at 50% off at our local hardware store.
By the afternoon the paint was dry. I cleaned up and packed everything away, culled some glassware and tidied the kitchen.
Mmmm .....Wonder if there's some magic way to do that to myself? Maa.

Thank you all for your follow up the comments.
Sami ...Paint is a cheap way to update, don't you think?
Anne ...I spread out the work over the week. Still ended up with a twinge in the back though.
Sharon, the difference is amazing. I'm going to enjoy my kitchen so much more.
Cathy ... It does look like another kitchen, doesn't it?
Lea, yes, I do love it. Congratulations on your achievements. You must feel proud.
Bridget ....I keep walking through and admiring the change.
John....yes I have a dishwasher. Only used when I have visitors and there is a lot of washing up. I'd much rather spend time with them than at the sink.
Karen and Sarina.... The difference in the light in there has completely changed. Now all I'd like is my sky dome.
Cathy ...I will pop over to your blog soon and say hello.
Heidi.... I used a water based paint but an oil based would probably be harder wearing with children in the house. Even better is a 'marine' paint but would cost a lot more and clean up more trouble. (turps) Preparation is easy as above. If your kitchen is old....have a go. What have you got to lose? The beauty of doing this is that you can have any colour you like and you can always change your mind. Cheaper than replacing the kitchen.

Isn`t it amazing what a lick of paint can do. That looks so inviting now. Happy cooking in a re-vamped kitchen!!!
It looks so much brighter, a lick of paint can make all the difference.
What an incredible difference you've made Susan! You've worked wonders and made it into a brand new kitchen that would be so much more pleasant working in. The new handles are just the ticket too. Well done - you should quite rightly be so pleased with yourself.
We have a similar design of kitchen to yours and were wondering about the cupboard to the right of the dishwasher. How do you access that cupboard space in the corner. Is it perhaps one of those double swing out doors?
You've inspired us no end!!
Enjoy a restful weekend :D) Cheers
Looks great Maa, the handles give it a modern feel. We have a caravan with wood-grain panels inside that I'd like to paint over white someday. Maybe I'll investigate the types of paint next time I'm at the hardware store.
It looks so bright and cheery! Paint can pick up your mood, that's for sure! You did a nice job, congratulations on your "new" kitchen.
Oh Maa it is beautiful I would be happy to work in such a nice bright kitchen with you. Great job. B
It looks new to me!
You've done a great job!
I wish it was my kitchen!
Susan ...the cupboard near next to the dishwasher and stove are both a double door cupborad that have a hinge between both doors. It used to be called a 'piano hinge' but it may have another name these days. Now you can get the shelving attached to the doors so that when you open it the contents come out with the door. Brillaint idea!
Bridget...to paint the inside of a caravan would be great. I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.
I would recommend that any paint you have left over-store it in a jar upside down for any nicks or scratches. You only need a little dab to cover things like this and you'll keep it looking good in case of accidents. Which surely do happen in a kitchen!
Thank you all for your visits and comments. It spurs me on.
Maa
Many thanks for your answer to my query Susan. Having a bright and cheerful kitchen makes all the difference doesn't it - love your ingenuity :D)
It looks amazing. You should feel delighted with the results of your hard work.
